BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Vice President Chair of Stewardship |
"About a year ago, I was invited to join the Lake James Christian Camp board. My grandfather served as camp manager in the 1960s, and my parents were involved with the camp both before and after they married. Aside from attending one summer in 1968, I hadn’t had much connection to the camp—until now.
When asked to serve, I prayed and asked the Lord if this was His will. He said yes. I hesitated, unsure what I could offer or even what the ministry truly entailed. But after meeting with the executive director and board president, their passion was contagious, and I felt the Spirit move me to take the leap. This summer, I volunteered as faculty for both junior high and senior high weeks, eager to witness the ministry firsthand. What I saw was powerful: Lake James is making a lasting impact on today’s youth. As I explored the camp’s nearly 100-year history and learned about the board’s vision for its future, my excitement grew. Lake James Christian Camp has been—and I believe will continue to be—a vital part of God’s Kingdom. I’m deeply grateful and humbled that God has invited me into this ministry." - David Grimm |

Chair of 100 Year Celebration Program Committee |
"When the Board was asked to write about their camp experiences, I realized my involvement was four generations deep; from my parents to my grandchildren. Our family as campers to faculty and summer staff. For me, camp was a special place for Christ like experiences. As board members we emphasize that camp is a safe place and a special place for everyone. As faculty, it is a short term mission trip in my own backyard. To be a sower of God's Word to many hearts of young people who attend here. Jesus said, 'The harvest is so great, but the workers are few.' That is why I keep coming back, this is my joy."

"I first came to camp back in the
mid 1980’s. In the fall of 2019, a friend of mine from my church approached me, letting me know there was an open position on the board and asked me if I would be interested in being on the board. I had been a faculty for many years, so I was no stranger to camp. I said yes and have been on the board since November 2019. Being a part of Lake James combines my love of children with my love of Jesus. It is a place where when you are there, all feel safe and secure from the outside world. I love hearing the children sing praise songs at the top of their lungs and getting to baptize a child is an experience you soon won’t forget. I’m excited about seeing how the camp can grow and expand in the next few years as we reach the 100-year anniversary. The camp has touched thousands of lives and I look forward to seeing how physical changes to the camp help the camp grow." - Tony Smoke |

"Lake James Christian Camp holds a special place in my heart. Not many other places are so instrumental in life-changing decisions and spiritual growth. From early in my adult life, I have volunteered as faculty. Not only do you get to directly invest in the youth, but the kids indirectly help you remember the true joy that comes from Christian community.
I will never forget our family's first year volunteering, where a young pre-teen naturally connected with our family. As the week continued, he opened up more and more. By the end of the week, he decided to surrender his life to Christ and be baptized. How many times do we get to have a front row seat to lives being changed? LJCC continues to be a source where life-change happens and it is exciting to be part of it! After joining the camp board years ago, I am constantly encouraged to see men assemble from hours away with the same mission - to see lives changed for Christ. It is a privilege to find a place to use the talents God has provided to be a small piece in God's huge plan. I am so excited for the future of the camp! As we get closer to our 100 year anniversary, I am encouraged that we aren't just looking to what happened in the past, but that we are able to stand on the shoulders of those strong leaders and have a strong plan to propel us forward for the next 100 years!" - Eric Steinman |
